BISWANGAN

Barangay Biswangan is one of the fourteen (14) barangays that comprise the Municipality of Lakewood. It shares the boundary of barangays Gasa to the north, Baking in the northeast, Poblacion in the east, Lacarayan of Tigbao to the northwest and Lukuan to the south and southwest.

The indigenous Subanens of the barangay first named the place as Danaw of the lake. When the Visayans from various places settled in the area, they called the place Buswak – in reference to a lake outlet. In 1960, the name was again changed to Buswangan upon the establishment of the first public high school. It was formally called Biswangan, after its official creation as a Barangay in 1963 under the Municipality of Kumalarang.

The barangay is culturally-mixed with Visayan and indigenous Subanen. The Subanen comprise almost sixty percent of the entire population.

Generally considered as upland, the barangay has an elevation that ranges from 350 to 720 meters above sea level. There are watersheds and wetlands which flow into the Lake and the Biswangan River. Most of the landmass is considered marginally suitable for agriculture use and agro forestry.
